Our Classes

Story Adventures - Session 2 (K-2)

Make the leap from page to stage! In our Elementary Story Adventures classes, students will deepen their appreciation for the arts through the exploration of new and classic children’s literature. Artistic expression, performing confidence, peer collaboration (and silly storytelling) will all be in the spotlight for this fun-filled 7-week session.

Wednesdays 3:30-4:45pm (October 26 - December 14)

This class is for current Kindergarten through 2nd grade students only.

Students can take the bus directly from Aspen Elementary School or ACDS to the Yellow Brick building and be picked up by our Teaching Artist at the bus stop and walked over to the Red Brick for class. 

 

Conditioning & Technique for Dancers

Dancers, get ready to work! This conditioning class will use exercises from dance, circus, gymnastics, agility, and strength training to hone and sharpen dance technique. The foundation of any strong dancer is in their strength, flexibility, and endurance. We'll focus on building strong bodies and increasing kinesthetic awareness of the mechanics of movement to make you a better, smarter dancer. This class is open to students grades 5-12. 

Tuesdays & Thursdays 5-6:30pm (November 29 - December 15)

Please note that there will be no class on Thursday December 1st due to the Aspen High School trip to ThesCon. 

Young Comedian's Workshop Series - Single Workshops (Grades 5-8)

Join us for our Young Comedian Workshop Series, exploring three time honored comedy art forms: Stand Up, Longform Improv, and Clown. This registration is for individual workshops. Stand Up: Monday November 14th, 4:30-6:30pm

Ready to get your lunch crew rolling with laughter on the floor? Your sister doing a spit-take at the dinner table? Your best friend laughing until they cry? Don’t miss the first installment  in Theatre Aspen’s Young Comedian Workshop Series: Stand Up Comedy. Learn the basic rules of constructing jokes and routines, and walk away with a developed story ready to be the first bit in your own original stand up hour.

Longform Improv: Monday December 5th, 4:30-6:30pm 

Theatre Aspen’s Young Comedian Workshop Series will have you saying: “yes, and?” as you and your friends transform into Aspen’s newest improv troupe! Taking on the world of Longform Improv with skills and scenarios inspired by comedy institutions like Second City, Saturday Night Live, and the Upright Citizen’s Brigade, you’ll work together to create brand new characters and worlds in the blink of an eye. Get ready to think on your feet and walk away ready to improvise your way through just about anything.

Clown: Monday December 12th, 4:30-6:30pm 

It’s time to clown around! Embrace your most hilariously creative and authentic self through Theatre Aspen’s Young Comedian Workshop Series: Clown. We’ll explore the smallest mask, the red nose, by creating our own clown persona and develop clown techniques that will not only strengthen your comedic skills, but empower your improvisation skills and character performance. Get ready to embrace, through openness and humor, your unique ridiculousness.

Stage Combat Masterclass (Grades 5-12)

Cue up your fists and take your fight stance! Join experienced Director, Classical Actor, and Fight Choreographer William LeDent for this masterclass laying the foundations of stage combat technique, safety, and performance. We’ll introduce the basic tenets of implied violence and partner collaboration, colored by an exciting vocabulary of moves, and culminating in a short partner fight for friends and family. Don’t miss out on this chance to (safely) "beat up" your friends - bring the whole crew!

This masterclass is offered for combatants grades 5-12. 

 

Play Lab Session 2: Murder Mystery(Grades 3-4)

There's been a murder and we have no clue whodunnit! Dive into the realm of collaborative storytelling, thinking up an entirely original show from scratch, create and solve clues, and uncover the solution to a murder mystery. Together, we'll use improv to generate ideas and discover one-of-a-kind characters, weaving the best of what we've made into our brand-new play.

There will be no class January 16th and February 20th due to Aspen Public School Holidays.

MS Musical Theatre Technique

Do you love singing and performing in musicals? Want to feel more confident at your next audition or performance? In this class, students will learn how to develop a healthy singing technique, improve musical skills, and how to interpret and perform a song. Songs will be developed with strong emphasis on lyric analysis, character development, and communicating the meaning of the song.

For Students in Grades 5-8. 

 

 

MS Improv Troupe

Think fast and on your feet in our Improv Troupe this Spring! Together we will learn how to work as an ensemble of storytellers, create improvised stories, and hone our comedic instincts. After exploring long-form and short-form improvisation exercises, this class will have you saying "Yes, And!"
